Summer is here and we all tend to be more active this time of year. While being by the lake can bring us fewer sunny days than most places, we’ve learned to revel in the warmth of the sun any chance we get. As we go biking and hiking in the Metroparks, running and trying out our stamina in one of many 5ks, 10ks and marathons, and participate in a plethora of sports and outdoor events, we still seem to find time to work, play and chauffer our families anywhere and everywhere. We seem to be supercharged by the promise of beautiful, warm weather. Heck, just add a cape or a lasso and call us Superman or Wonder Woman! (Personally, I could do more with the invisible plane.)This time of year our bodies easily tell us to move more, drink more and eat less. This makes it easier for us to be consistently active or keep up with that workout routine. We know how important this is to keep us healthy, but did you know that massage as part of that routine is even more important? Here’s why:Massage provides balance to all body systems that is imperative for healthMassage helps prevent injury and loss of mobilityMassage helps reduce recovery time from your workoutMassage helps reduce and prevent muscle pain from overuseLike your workout or sport, massage is key to managing stressJust remember this…even a superhero has a sidekick. So think of your massage therapist as your sidekick and massage as that cape or lasso, helping you save the day while keeping your body from losing its’ superpowers. Don’t let your muscles play the bad guy by not taking care of them. As that summer “superhero”, the strong on the outside that everyone sees (compliments of that workout) is what we tend to focus on, but it’s the accessories that make that hero super and help build strength on the inside. So call your massage therapist today, and don’t just ask for the lasso…go for the invisible plane. Make massage part of your regular routine.
